University Studios & University Towns is a new residential condominium development by Podium Developments and Building Capital coming soon to North Oshawa located near the University of Ontario Institute of Technology and the Durham College. University Studios is a proposed 8 storey building with 308 fully furnished SmartStudios™. University Towns is a proposed townhome project with 170 SmartTowns. Designed by Wallman Architects with a tentative occupancy date is summer of 2018.
University Studios Condos & University Towns is a joint venture between Podium Developments and Building Capital. First of all, Podium Developments is a real estate developer and builder based in Ontario that specializes in "student accommodations in the province of Ontario". It was founded by Bernard Luttmer and Oskar Johansson who were former Olympians. Podium Developments has been constructing homes in the last decade and is a Tarion registered builder since 2006. They have been working on many projects across Ontario including Kingston, Guelph, Barrie, Oshawa and Toronto. "Podium delivers inspired design, quality workmanship, and timely services based on a deep knowledge of the building and renovation process." Below is a list of some of their projects.
2 Taylor Wood Road - Phase one of the purpose built student housing project with 59 units and 260 beds. A new community of apartments and townhouses within walking distance to the University of Ontario Institute of Technology and Durham College in North Oshawa. "Each of our suites have a private en-suite bathroom attached to each bedroom. No more waiting to use the shower! Also, we install either a deep soaker tub or shower in each bathroom. The bedrooms are big with room for a bedside table, a double bed, desk and dresser. These furnishings are all included along with a desk chair, and bedside lamp."
2015-2019 Simcoe Street - Phase two of the purpose built student housing project with 23 units and 111 beds also within walking distance to the University of Ontario Institute of Technology and Durham College in North Oshawa.
One Eighty - A new townhouse development currently in pre-construction and is selling located at 180 Gordon Street in Guelph, Ontario with 10 units. Unit size range from 1,483 square feet and priced from $489,900. This is luxury waterfront condo living offering rooftop patios.
The other real estate developer involved in the University Studios & University Towns project is Markham-based Building Capital. They are "a specialist developer and investor in student living and commercial real estate" that was founded in 2008 and have built many successful projects in Southern Ontario focusing on student living. Their strength lies in the "robust relationships with quality partners across all steps of the investment value chain" and they focus on real estate developments in the early stages.
University Studios Condominiums & University Towns is designed by Toronto-based architectural firm, the Wallman Architects. They are a "group of dedicated design professionals" that "focuses on delivering compelling designs that respond to the needs and goals of their clients". Developers seem to gravitate towards them and this firm specializes in a variety of building types such as institutional, high-rise, mixed-use and hospitality projects. Wallman Architects "utilize a collaborate design process where they can contribute their extensive experience to ensure a project's success".
